Adabtable

I am at lost on where to head to in my career...you see..
being an architect never been on in the list of my report cards since standard 3(alaa..like the future planning yada yada). I've written doctor, scientist and even a tailor - and at one time a teacher becoz my teacher always get presents during teachers' day (xikhlas btol)

I've sort of discussed about architecture before...and here I quote a respond to that;
"to me, what i look for in an architect is their ability to design/build to people's needs. The aesthetic value comes second"- u know who u r
I, for a long time have the same reasoning which have quite a negative impact in my learning - a cup must be empty to be filled, desho? but i keep saying i can't do this bcoz it's expensive...i can't do that becoz it's ornamented...blablavla

It is not wrong and it is not very right as well. I've listened to a lecture cd (mintak kt RMITIS) on the BASIC of Islam - they usually talk about science and all...but to my surprise (surprise laa jgak sbenanye), the unknown speaker said when you see a great architecture (eg:Aya Sofia, Cordova Mosque, Blue Mosque and all the grand ones during Islamic rulings), you will start to wonder how a man can create something so complicated, or something so beautiful or grand or wonderful, the architect must be a great architect -

I love The Great mosque of cordoba

and when you compare with Allah's creations that are far mooooooore complicated, much much much more beautiful and sometimes no word can describe them - you'll learn how much much much (infinity) GREAT ALLAH is...given that you have an open heart and open mind, insyaAllah...

many disregard the magnificent sky above us...
but just think, how do u build an endless ceiling without beams, pillars or walls?...
with the sun, the moon and stars hanging without strings!

And by the heaven and Him Who built it [91:5]

I've change my perspective now...it's not bad to impress people you know...-if I keep going only with cheap and simple designs people will start to think that Islam teaches us to be cheapskate - oh maybe not...i dunno...

see how islam is adaptable to any kind of people, economic level, situation...if you have to put a word for 'islamic architecture' then it is 'Adabtable'...not really flexible as some say...as flexible is like u can bend them with pressure or something...but adaptable is more like suiting to one situation - again I'm bad with words...or maybe they both share the same meaning...

shrug again...4 years of tarbiyah and 4 years of architecture still only provide me with little knowledge - the more u learn the more things u don't know...

Rabbi ziddni 'ilma...
My Lord, increase my knowledge
(rabbi ziddni taqwa, juge)

Final in 3 days

Bismillahirahman Ar-Rahim.

Huge thanks to those who's done the survey.May Allah reward you plenty. Jzk khair.
I'm typing with my left hand, while my right hand smudged with kicap kipas udang, rice n egg - being an architecture student require me to be VERY multitasking - i'm listening to songs while thinking what to write right now. the only thing i fail to accomplish as an architecture student is to stay up in long hours, forget about staying up the whole week.

Ya Allah grant me with me with ability to withstand the harshness of architecture...

The count down to 3...Oh my GOD.
Sneak preview of the project: maseh blom alter lg :P

the site: the existing Archit Buildg in Melb Uni

on 3rd level

We have to do a 2 minutes presentation that tells the whole project. How do you compact all semester-long-hard-work in just 2 minutes? It feels like I'm in entertainment industry - actor doesn't show their hardwork to make great movies, eh?

So, insyaAllah this is my 2 min words. It'll be great if someone who are better in words to edit this for me ^_^ (kak tmc ke, kek eni ke...or who ever..hehehe):

HyperComplex is  a design that interpret the Melbourne Model and also suggesting a new learning environment for architecture students and staffs. The intention is to promote architecture through 'window shopping'.Thus my design strategy is to emulate hypermarket + shopping complex concept in a big box on the site. It may sound radical to use a commercial building in university context, however HyperComplex is suitable to adopt the Melbourne Model where architecture can be promoted in a familiar way to the public (display in shopping complex) and architecture students can be both 'retailers' + 'customers'.

I need your help

Salam n Good Day,

If u would be kind enough to answer the poll on the left hand side, it would be great.
Thanks for your time!

Intro
It's for my current studio - Melbourne Uni New Architecture& Planning Building.
According to the Melbourne Model that they just implement recently, students who want to do architecture need to go thru 3 years of degree of environment.

so it's like 3 yrs environment + 2 years of Master of Architecture/Landscape/etc
They can go to 11 major after the 3 years.
So this building I designing is becoming like a hypermarket+shopping complex where architecture is being promoted.

So my building is 'customer-friendly' where other student can 'window shopping' and architecture student can occupy the building in an efficient way (given that hypermarkets allow you have everything in one go).

But what I need to know is what program/function will normal people or architecture student would like to go, or see? or what function attract them more to get into a building.

So that''s why I've created the poll.

Once again, thank you for your time.
Jazakallahu khair

Budding fruit

Salam,

it's been a while, and all I've posted in this blog are just announcements and copy-paste stuffs.
I've been thinking to write things about architecture - just to show the result of 4 years of study. But never work on it.

So just wait for a while until I settle down, and I'll give u a glimpse of architecture through Kim's eyes.
And I got 4 to boot to that :P - joke!
sharing what I think in architecture insyaAllah will help me with my major project next year

My 'HyperComplex' project with tutors:NHArchitect

Just an introduction to start up.
What is Architecture to you? In MY opinion, architecture is not just about building, it's a tool to convey culture and function, an idea to resolve issues, asset that portrays political movement and also connected to economical situation.
Too hard to understand? But for mere public, architecture is just a building. Yes?
People appreciate more of 'creative' and  'beautiful' architecture. example we have in Melbourne: Fed Square, State Lib, REB. Or Sydney Opera House. But how many people (other than those whom who have more concern toward environment) really do know about CH2?
In case of Malaysian architecture, how many appreciate Mahkota Hotel, Melaka? They only see the twin tower, Crystal Mosque, Hijjaz Kasturi's towers.
Owh, FYI many lectures from RMIT thinks Malaysia is not a good country as a resource of Asian architecture except for the traditional one.  What a shame... (or it just need to be discovered?)

Just wait until I educate you, owh my country...>:D
